While working the Lottery booth at the St. Louis Home & Garden show last weekend, our St. Louis Customer Service Manager Mark Weber was approached by a player. She told him how much she loves Points For Prizes®, and for an interesting reason: She uses her points for good.
That player and home show attendee was Patricia Danna of Florissant. Patricia works as a funeral director, but her first love is helping animals. She’s a regular volunteer at local no-kill shelters, and she found a way to turn her love of the Lottery into a way to help stray pets.
Patricia collects her non-winning tickets and redeems them for points with her My Lottery account. She then uses the points to buy dog and cat beds that she donates to local shelters like the Humane Society, Animal House and St. Animal.
“I’ve never used them for myself,” explained Danna. “I don’t need anything. But they love them. These little pet beds are great for cats, and the shelters are really grateful.”
Friends and co-workers have caught on to what she’s doing and are doing their share to help. Friends at Hutchens Mortuary and the Gateway Gun Club have been collecting tickets and passing them on to Patricia to turn into animal beds. She estimates that she’s donated at least a dozen so far.
“One of the guys at the gun club, he just hands me the tickets and says, ‘Dog bed,’” she laughed. “I get such satisfaction going in and seeing one of those critters laying on one. I couldn’t have done it without their help.”
Points For Prizes exists to reward you for your loyalty with prizes that you want and need. If that includes helping others, well, we’re glad to be a part of that. Salute to Patricia for her dedication to our furry friends.

The Missouri Lottery is celebrating 30 years today. When we began in 1986, the Internet didn’t exist. We stamped tickets by hand, and you had to return a winning ticket to the store where you bought it. We sold about $200 million in that first year. We’ve come a long way.
Today, the Lottery sells more than $1.1 billion in tickets every year. In our lifetime, we’ve generated more than $5 billion for the state and public education. This year, we hope to transfer more than $270 million to public education.
We couldn’t do it without you. Thanks for Playing It Forward. Here’s to the next exciting 30 years.
