Jackpot alert!

I stopped for eggs at the grocery store and all of the clerks were talking about winning the Powerball jackpot. I asked if they added Power Play, and they all laughed, " We're going to win the big one. We don't care about the little prizes."

Of course, we all want to win the jackpot. But there are nine ways to win. Are you saying you wouldn't like to win $7, $100, $10,000 or even $1 million?

Surely, most of us would gladly take a win of any size. But it sure if fun to think about a $200 million jackpot ... even if you have to split it with a few co-workers.

American Muscle

There’s a new game on the street that is boasting some serious muscle. It’s the Missouri Lottery “American Muscle” Scratchers ticket. Players can win up to $75,000 instantly and one of four 2011 muscle cars. These aren’t your daddy’s old street cruisers.  Players can choose from a Ford Mustang GT Coupe, a Chevrolet® Camaro® 2SS™ Coupe, a Dodge Challenger R/T HEMI® or a Dodge Charger R/T HEMI®. The Lottery will pay the taxes on the prize, so you’ll be cruising the strip without worrying about Uncle Sam’s cut.

In addition to instant prizes, we’re also giving away three cars in a second-chance promotion. Enter non-winning “American Muscle” Scratchers tickets into the “Muscle Car Mania” promotion. The Lottery will award a muscle car in each of three drawings this summer, plus prizes of a year’s worth of gasoline, and $500 in cash to makeover your current ride.

We’re getting the whole summer started with an “American Muscle” tour down Route 66 during the week of June 13. It’s important to note, however, that the first entry deadline for the “Muscle Car Mania” promotion is that week – Tuesday, June 14. You must have your non-winning tickets delivered to the Lottery or entered online before that date to be eligible for the first drawing.

Hello, summer! The Mega Millions jackpot was hit in Texas, and the Powerball jackpot rolled. In Missouri, there was one player who matched four white-ball numbers and the Powerball to win $10,000. Dierbergs in Manchester is the store where the winning ticket was sold.

Since this week is shortened by a holiday, there are two big jackpots open tonight and more on the way tomorrow. Tonight's Mega Millions jackpot reset to $12 million, and the Show Me Cash jackpot is $70,000. Wednesday's Powerball jackpot is $200 million!

Happy Memorial Day!

State offices, including the Missouri Lottery, will be closed Monday in observance of Memorial Day. The Lottery salutes all members of our armed forces who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.

Here's hoping that you get time to pay respect to our nation's heroes and spend time with family. Even though our offices will be closed, thousands of retail locations statewide will be open for business if you get the itch.

Thinking of Joplin

I've been impressed with the outpouring of support for our fellow citizens in Joplin. A powerful EF5 tornado hit the area on Sunday night and destroyed about a third of the city. Several Missouri Lottery retail locations were wiped out, like this pile of rubble that was once Frank's Lounge.

As citizens around our state rally to help with the rescue and recovery, we at the Missouri Lottery also want to pitch in. Since Lottery proceeds benefit public education, and schools in the area were damaged, we will be collecting funds through June to be donated to the Joplin Public School District.

We will be collecting donations at all of the Lottery offices in St. Louis, Springfield, Kansas City and Jefferson City. Lottery employees, retailers and players can all help Joplin rebuild following this terrible tragedy by making sure the school children of Joplin have every opportunity to continue their education.

Where it's at

A rare Friday edition of the winner breakdown! A winning Show Me Cash ticket was sold last night. The 142nd winning jackpot ticket sold in the game was purchased at Johnson's Amoco, 205 S. Vandeventer, in St. Louis. Check your tickets closely - the lucky player holds claim to the $60,000 jackpot.

There was also a big Club Keno winner yesterday. A 7-Spot ticket sold at Jake's Bar and Grill in Columbia gave someone a $6,093 surprise!

Playing Club Keno is a fun way to spice up your evening, but there are other games to consider tonight. Tonight's Show Me Cash jackpot resets to $50,000, and the Mega Millions jackpot is $35 million. Get your holiday weekend rolling with a bang.

Powerball!

The Powerball jackpot rolled, although a player in West Virginia did win $1 million with Power Play. In Missouri, one player also increased a prize by adding Power Play. Two tickets matched four white-ball numbers and the Powerball to win $10,000, and one of those players added Power Play to bump the prize to $20,000. The winning tickets were sold in the following locations:

• $10,000 - Price Chopper, 4201 S. Noland Road, in Independence
• $20,000 - Ayerco in Taylor

Saturday's Powerball jackpot has grown to $171 million! Remember, it only takes $1 to win, $2 to win with Power Play.

Show Me Cash!

Show Me Cash continues to make big winners! One player matched all five winning Show Me Cash numbers last night. A ticket sold at Ms. B's in Leadington holds claim to the $98,000 jackpot. (Leadington is part of the Park Hills/Desloge community.)

That's the 141st winning jackpot ticket sold since the game began in September 2008. Tonight's jackpot resets to $50,000. Any takers? You could also play for tonight's $26 million Mega Millions jackpot.

Silver Anniversary

I've added the winners from drawing #4 to the map. It's starting to get a little crowded, and we've got eight drawings left in the promotion. And that's not including the grand-prize drawing for $1 million!

The number of entries was down for this last drawing, although they still numbered more than 39,000. Does that mean your odds will continue to improve during the course of the year? Maybe.
