I had a great question from Deb the other day. She wanted to know how she could find out if her promotional entries ever arrived in the mail. I told her the only way to verify that was to send them certified with a return receipt. It costs a little more, but the post office sends you a notice when your envelope is delivered. However, that isn't the only way to be sure that your entries are in the hopper.
First, you can always drop off your entries at one of our regional offices. We have drop-off bins at each Lottery office in Springfield, St. Louis, Kansas City and Jefferson City. Of course, that's not always convenient for everyone. The other way to make sure you beat the deadline is to enter the tickets on-line through your My Lottery account. It will save the cost of postage initially, and you can always check your account to see which tickets you have in the drawing. If you are selected as a potential winner, we'll notify you and ask that you then send the tickets from the winning selection to the Lottery for verification. Sending winners certified is always a good idea, and we've added a new feature on our winners list that indicates that we've received your tickets. That way, you have peace of mind knowing that your tickets beat the deadline, and your selection has been verified. All that's left is to sit back and wait for your prize.
P.S. One added precaution - if you're sending a winning ticket in the mail, it's probably a good idea to make copies first. You can not claim a prize with a copy, but it can be used to verify possession. Better safe than sorry!
